Video: Surfing in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

One of the advantages of currently being based in Puerto Vallarta (Mexico) is that I can often enjoy my favorite sport: surfing. The area might not be one of the top surfing destinations in the world, but there are plenty of waves during the year to let me surf more days than not, and enjoy the sun, sea and natural surroundings this great sport allows (find more info about surfing in Puerto Vallarta).

Some of the best surf sessions in Puerto Vallarta I’ve had include one in which a group of us surfers enjoyed the show displayed by two humpback whales jumping less thank 1km from us on a sunny day, another in which a huge school of fish swam right to where I was and suddenly I found myself in the middle of a feeding frenzy where dozens of pelicans and Bobby birds were diving around me to catch the fish, joined shortly after by 2 dolphins, and spotting turtles that come up for air plenty of times too.

The video was filmed mostly with a GoPro Hero camera, mounted on the surfboard, and shows me having plenty of fun in the water. I hope you enjoy it!

  2. I’ve never surfed in Puerto Vallarta, but I go once a year to Barra De Navidad and love to surf around there. I love your video. Are you using a GoPro? I can’t wait to get one to video our surf sessions.

    1. I have indeed used a GoPro for this video! It is not the HD model, but the images are still quite good. I highly recommend them, they are a great way of recording your surf session and other action sports you may practice!

  3. I’ve been surfing only once before and that was in Cahuita, Costa Rica. I instantly became a fan. I haven’t been surfing since, but I want to live somewhere with ready access to surfing when I want it.

    1. I am still in a planning phase for 2011, but I do think quite a few interesting destinations are waiting for me πŸ™‚ Where are you based in, by the way?

  4. Love the video and I love the GoProHD! (I dont have one but i’ve seen some great things from it)
You make surfing look so easy! I did not have such an easy time when I tried in Australia! but I will definitely try it again πŸ™‚

    1. Well guess what Cailin: I was surfing again two days ago and a wave swept it away. I no longer have it and it is somewhere in the bottom off Mexico’s Pacific coast πŸ™
