The small Mediterranean nation of Malta is a melange of tradition and modernity, history and luxury, beaches and the natural beauty of the island. In many ways, Salini Resort exemplifies this mix of glorious contradictions. It’s decadent but dignified, relaxed and exhilarating.
The resort itself is located just a few minutes from St. Paul’s Bay, a wide arc of warm sand and lapping waves. It’s a great location, particularly if you have wheels. The village of Bugibba is just a 3.5 kilometers away, while the beaches of St. Paul’s Bay are just 10 minutes from the resort.
If you don’t happen to have a car, public transport is available from just outside the resort, with free shuttles to some attractions.
The resort itself is immaculate, with tasteful décor and some serious attention to detail. The sleek modernity of much of the resort juxtaposes nicely with charming Old World additions, such as low stone rubble walls.
This combination of old and new blends perfectly with the surrounding Mediterranean landscape. There’s a real sense of place, and it allows for that classic Maltese charm to just ooze from every wall.
Salini Resort is probably best suited to families and couples. They also offer some good deals on special events, such as honeymoons, wedding receptions and corporate events.
Salini has a wide variety of room options. The standard rooms (like the one we had and featured in this post) are spacious, with good views of either the garden or the ocean. Each comes with a private balcony, along with standard amenities including an ensuite bathroom, tea and coffee, flatscreen TV and deposit box.
There’s also a good-sized working area. Wifi is available for an additional cost. If you're visiting Malta with a baby the resort can provide a crib at no cost, which is extremely helpful.
Our room, overlooking the bay, was great for what we needed. As mentioned they all have a balcony, which albeit small, does offer you the chance to sit outside and breathe fresh air if you want to.
The main road is a stone's throw away, but noise is not a problem at all (this coming from a very light sleeper).
Alternatively, the executive rooms are a notch up, with more amenities and free Wifi included. However, the resort’s most impressive option is the superior room. Located on the top floor, these rooms have commanding views of either the beach or island, and have everything you’d expect from a 4 star hotel.
Salini Resort also has larger rooms for families, which come with both a double and sofa bed. For long-term guests, the self-catering rooms are the best choice.
Salini Resort offers a good mix of services and amenities for guests. There’s a solid array of leisure facilities, including two pools, a fitness center and a sauna. Full spa facilities are also available. They also offer a full size ballroom and two terraces for weddings and other special events.
For corporate guests, they’ve got both a meeting room and training areas, making Salini a good choice for business retreats.
For holiday makers, the resort offers a free shuttle bus to nearby attractions like St. Julian’s and Bugibba. Tours can likewise be arranged at the front desk.
Wifi is also available in public areas throughout the resort.
Salini Resort has several restaurants, each for a different purpose. Giuseppi's is an upscale Italian restaurant that serves mostly seafood and contemporary Italian dishes.
A crowd favorite is also Italian restaurant Vecchia Napoli with some spectacular pizzas. This restaurant is ideal for families with kids, and is open as well to guests who are not staying at the hotel.
SALINI RESORT MALTA
Nice rooms, superb breakfast and beautiful location
Mistral Lounge is a good option during the day serving quick snacks and good sandwiches throughout the day as does the lobby bar.
Perhaps my favorite though was the Coastal Restaurant, where the buffet breakfast is served every day.
There is a huge selection of food to chose from including fresh bakery, salads, eggs, omelettes, fruit, cereal, hams, coffee and lots more. We'd spend quite some time eating here every morning, and Teo enjoyed the breakfast a lot as well.
Perhaps the only drawback of the restaurant was the flies. Having breakfast outside was a bit of a nuisance because of flies that would come from the surrounding countryside, and despite the closed doors some managed to sneak into the restaurant as well.
Still, it is a very enjoyable time of the day.
Location, Beaches & Other Activities
Salini Resort is a beach-lover’s paradise. The resort is located right on the beautiful Salini Bay, while the popular St. Paul’s Bay is just 10 minutes away by car.
The closest village, Bugibba, makes for a pleasant day trip, and is just 3.5 kilometers away. Other easily-reached attractions include the Malta National Aquarium and Mediterranean Marine Park.
Slightly further afield, Malta’s capital of Valletta can also be done as a day trip. The city’s historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage site, with impressive Baroque architecture and a wealth of culture and history.
Salini Resort can arrange transport and tours, which hit up some of the city’s most unmissable attractions. Don’t miss the St. John's Co-Cathedral.
Built during the late 16th Century, this artistic cathedral draws crowds with its pair of original masterpieces by influential Baroque painter Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio.
Anyone interested in military history needs to check out the 19th Century Fort Rinella. The world’s first mechanized fort, Rinella was best known in its heyday for its massive 100 ton Armstrong gun.
This beast of a weapon could be fired every six minutes, making it a technological marvel for its time. The fort recently underwent a major refurbishment, and tours are held by soldiers decked out in colonial era uniforms.
Salini Resort is very well located and ideal for families and couples because of the many services it has, space and quality of the rooms and services, and location.
Our son was able to walk freely around without getting in harms way or bothering other patrons, enjoyed the breakfast very much and slept very well in the crib the hotel provided.
As for adults, we enjoyed all of the above, and found the shuttle bus to be very convenient and all of the hotel staff to be very friendly.
